Catdoku is a fun, addictive cat-themed logic puzzle game that features mechanics from Sudoku and Minesweeper. Each puzzle or game level presents a grid with different colors, and instead of filling every tile with numbers, you place a limited number of cats in specific cells.

Basic Rules and Objectives

You only complete a level when all cats have their perfect spots within the grid that satisfy all four rules simultaneously:

• Cats can't be in the same row;
• Cats can't be in the same column;
• Only one cat per color;
• No two cats can touch, even horizontally, vertically, or diagonally.

For example, on a 6×6 board, you ultimately place only six cats, one per row, column, and color, and leave the other cells empty.

Use X marks as part of the strategy

In Catdoku, you don't have to immediately place a cat whenever you notice an impossible cell. Use X marks to record cells where a cat cannot go, such as when a cat is already in the row, column, or colored section. That’s how strategic elimination or deduction helps you gradually find the perfect spot for all aloof cats. 

Avoid making too many mistakes

An incorrect cat placement can cost a fish, so don’t randomly try cells, since this type of move is too risky. Observe the whole grid and use X marks and elimination strategically to avoid unnecessary mistakes before you can complete the whole board. As more cells are marked "X", the correct cat positions gradually reveal themselves.
